Nurses use their collective voice as change agents to strengthen policy for nursing and those they serve. Nursing is the frontline. Content will include policy updates, effective communication strategies with a legislator and their staff, posters and understanding advocacy on a three-tiered level of organizational, association and professional nursing.

POSTERS
The West Virginia Nurses Association is accepting posters submissions to be part of the video poster presentations for the virtual WVNA Policy Summit on Thursday, March 25, 2021. The purpose of the virtual poster session is to bring voices from the frontline to policy makers and the public about issues affecting the nursing profession and the health of West Virginians. Poster submission deadline has been extended to February 19, 2021.  Topics may include:

  • Clinical practice issues 
    •           Moral, ethical, or social justice issues
    •           Marginalized populations & social determinants of health
    •           Healthcare cost & finance
    •           Nurse recruitment & retention
    •           Nurse education
    •           Nurse faculty shortage
    •           Nurse administration and organizational infrastructures
    •           Mental health, substance abuse, & drug diversion
    •           Abuse, neglect, violence, bullying
    •           Veteran health
    •           Community health & school nursing

*Once poster is accepted you will receive further instructions for your video poster presentation.

Simplified Guidelines - Posters should address, at minimum, the following four points:

  1. Problem/Issue/Topic/Purpose
  2. Evidence/Background/Significance of the problem
  3. What do people need to know about this problem (teaching points)?
  4. What are the policy recommendations related to this problem?

*All poster presenters are required to register for the WVNA Policy Summit in advance. If you need assistance in developing your poster, including ideas for posters and how to make one, please contact Brad Phillips at brad.phillips@hsc.wvu.edu.
