Interviews for the WV RN Board and the WV LPN Board will take place on Tuesday, October 28 and Wednesday, October 29, 2025. 

Per West Virginia Code §30-7-3 and §30-7A-5, the West Virginia Nurses Association reviews applicants and submits a list of qualified candidates to the Governor for appointment. Terms last four to five years, with members eligible for up to two consecutive terms.

Note:

  • The WV RN Board is a governmental licensing agency that regulates and licenses registered nurses to protect the public. The West Virginia Board of Nursing also regulates Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in West Virginia. This board is responsible for licensing APRNs, establishing rules and scope of practice for the profession, and ensuring public health and safety.

  • The WV LPN Board is a state government agency that licenses LPNs and regulates their practice to protect the public.

  • While the WV Nurses Association is a professional membership organization that advocates for nurses and the nursing profession.  The boards of nursing have legal authority to set standards and discipline nurses, whereas the nurses association is a voluntary group that provides resources, networking, and a unified voice for its members.
