Luke Velickoff is a proud born and raised West Virginian from rural Preston County. He attended West Virginia University from 2016-2019 and while there found a talent and a flair for leadership. He was one of the youngest students to be elected president of the WVU School of Nursing’s Student Nurses’ Association. He created and ran multiple peer mentorship programs, was appointed by the Dean to sit on the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, and served as a Student Ambassador for the College of Nursing. He was also on the board of the WVU School of Nursing’s first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, which he still serves on to this day as an alumnus.

After graduating from WVU in 2019, Luke began working at Ruby Memorial Hospital in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. In this environment, he cares for the some of the most critically ill patients in West Virginia. He has also worked as the Business Administrator for Wise Women Health Care, LLC in Morgantown, WV, where he had the opportunity to pursue his passion for providing the women of West Virginia with access to safe, individualized, and high-quality health care.

In his personal life, Luke has a deep passion for politics. Luke has been actively involved with the WVNA for the past several years; first as a student and now as a professional nurse. Luke currently serves as the WVNA Early Career Board Member, he is the Chair of the Bylaws and Policy and Procedures Committee and was appointed Chair of the newly formed WVNA ad-hoc Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, he is a Legislative Leader for District 13 and is a member of the WVNA Events Committee.

Politically, Luke is committed to furthering LGBTQ+ rights in the state of West Virginia, and specifically aims to improve the population’s access to individualized and affirmative health care in rural communities. Luke has been involved with organizations such as Fairness WV and the American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia to help promote the voice of the LGBTQ+ community, working to bring empowerment to those who are too often overlooked.

Luke has always been dedicated to displaying excellence in his work, and he intends to bring that commitment to the board of the WVNA if elected to sit as the “Early Career Nurse”. His love for his Appalachian roots runs deep, and it is his primary desire to do what he can to bring equitable healthcare to the citizens of his homestate.
