West Virginia Nurses Association 2022 Fall Conference Awards
Call for Award Nominations
The WVNA Nominations and Awards Committee will accept nominations for the 2022 WVNA Awards Celebration which will take place at the 2022 WVNA Together Again Celebration on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the Marriott at Waterfront Place, Morgantown, WV.
Please nominate wonderful people for these awards! Send a brief description – just a paragraph or so – describing why you feel the person (or facility, for the Beacon Award), is the most exemplary nominee in the state of West Virginia for the applicable award listed below. Please email your nominations to the WVNA central office at centraloffice@wvnurses.org later than Friday, October 7, 2022.
- 2022 Friend of Nursing
This award is presented to a friend of nursing who has demonstrated tremendous personal and professional support of WV nurses. The awardee has actively supported the promotion of the nursing profession through modernization of policies that are adherent to the standards of the profession. This person should demonstrate leadership and advocacy within the state in assuring that professional delivery of healthcare is aligned with nationally recommended Future of Nursing standards, thus promoting exceptional nursing and health care delivery within the state.
- 2022 Lifelong Contribution to Nursing
This award is presented to a WVNA member who has demonstrated commitment and longevity in advancing the nursing profession through exemplary care of West Virginians. This nurse should demonstrate lifelong exemplary promotion of the nursing profession in all these avenues.
This nurse should be a leader in West Virginia.
This nurse should advance the professional development of nurses through their involvement in the West Virginia Nurses Association.
This nurse should have dedicated their life and profession to advancing nursing in West Virginia.
This nurse should be a model nurse and leader who has advanced the nursing profession as the most ethical profession in the country.
- 2022 Mentorship Award
This award is presented to a WVNA member who has demonstrated tremendous personal and professional support of West Virginia nursing, including frequent service as a preceptor to students. This person must actively support the promotion of the nursing profession and standards of the profession and fervently assist in graduating the highest-quality nurses in the state through clinical preceptorship, thus promoting exceptional health care within the state.
- 2022 Excellence in Direct Patient Care (bedside nurse)
This award is presented to a WVNA member who demonstrates tremendous care as a nurse, as an individual, and as a professional. This nurse supports West Virginia nursing, is engaged with their colleagues, and demonstrates the characteristics of a nurse leader.
- 2022 Politically Active Nurse of the Year
This individual is chosen by the PAC committee for outstanding effort in state-wide nursing policy. This person has demonstrated exceptional effort to communicate the national nursing standard to the West Virginia legislature and has been active in participating in the legislative process in West Virginia. They have worked tirelessly to educate West Virginia nurses and the West Virginia legislature in best practice standards to promote improvement in West Virginia health care.
- WVNA/AANP Awards
These are decided in conjunction with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Awardees are recognized both in West Virginia and at a ceremony during the annual AANP meeting.
1. The 2022 AANP State Award for Excellence
This award is given annually to an individual nurse practitioner in each state who has demonstrated excellence in NP clinical practice. This NP has worked tirelessly to care for their patients both clinically and in the advancement of the autonomous practice of advanced practice registered nurses within the state.
2. The 2022 AANP Advocate State Award for Excellence
This award is given annually to an individual in each state who has made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and acceptance of nurse practitioners and all APRNs. This award is in recognition for non-clinical practice initiatives related to leadership, policy, politics, research, education, and community affairs.
- 2022 Beacon Award
This award is presented to a West Virginia health care facility that demonstrates patient-centered care and exemplifies a nurse-friendly environment. West Virginia nurses will nominate the best places for nurses to work in West Virginia.
